Review: Fable II

Game Rant has come together to list 5 games that are prime examples of that overhype. Games that, either through the companies promoting them or the fans wanting them, were hyped as the next big thing and in some way, didn’t deliver or meet expectati

The star of the show is clearly the world of Albion. From a purely aesthetic standpoint, you can see how easy it is to be drawn in. Slightly cartoony visuals make the world so charming you will want to explore every area for fear of missing the smallest detail. It is easy to take the most menial task and turn it into hours of exploration and enjoyment, which also adds to the feeling that your options are limitless. Need to find an item? Why not take some time and search that forest for hidden treasure first. Need some side money? Well, Albion offers plenty of options to make it, from taking a real 9-5 job, becoming a store owner or slum lord, or even looting houses. Depending on your character type and play style, you can find something to do at any time without even delving into a single quest.

The final new feature in Fable Anniversary (besides achievements) is that of SmartGlass, something that is weighing heavier and heavier in overall experience these days. As admitted by Lead Designer Ted Timmins, it was basically implemented here as way to test the technology’s capabilities for future implementations. Thanks to that, there are actually a few interesting features that the app offers. Unsurprisingly, it’s basically an interactive map, but they’ve worked with Prima to also provide the locations of key items and characters (without going into too much detail). While this may seem a bit like cheating at first, it’s helpful enough only to ensure that you won’t get lost and makes it so you won’t result to using a full-blown strategy guide.

5. Crackdown 2

Crackdown was something of a surprise hit when it arrived on the Xbox 360. It had a hand in starting the “superhero sandbox” subgenre, which games like InFamous and Prototype expanded on, and garnered its fair share of fans. The success ensured that a sequel was on the way, eventually announced at E3 2009. The main focus of the promotion was that it would feature multiplayer, which was naturally appealing to those wanting to take down multi-million dollar crime syndicates with their buddies. About a year later, the game was relea

The daunting task of giving them classic they wanted was left up to Peter Molyneux and his team, and the task may have not have seemed that difficult for them. The original Fable presented an amazing amount of detail to the world, but it simply seemed to fall short on a few key areas. All they had to do this time around was expand on the good and improve on these problems and they would have a game etched into the upper echelon of the new generation.

Originally slated for release this fall, Red Dead Redemption 2 was recently delayed into next year. Even so, the game really isn’t all that far off in the grand scheme of things, so one would have imagined that Rockstar would have used E3 to give fans a deeper dive into its gameplay features, story, and characters. On the contrary, Red Dead Redemption 2 wasn’t seen during any of the big press conferences, and since it could launch before next year’s E3, it may never be seen at the show at

E3 2017 is now in the books, and like usual, it was a huge show featuring a wide variety of games. Some of the industry’s biggest upcoming games were on display at E3, like God of War , Star Wars Battlefront 2 , Super Mario Odyssey , and more. All things considered, there was a little something for everyone at E3 2017, but even so, there were some games we were hoping to see at the show that didn’t appear for one reason or anot

As far as E3 2018 press conferences go, Microsoft’s is mostly shrouded in mystery. Some leaks have suggested that Gears of War 5 will be announced at the event, but otherwise, Microsoft has managed to keep its cards close to its chest. Forza Horizon 4 is the only game fans are guaranteed to see at E3, but there’s a possibility some of Microsoft’s biggest franchises, including Halo and Fable , could also make appearances and Crackdown 3 will likely be a part of the s

Fable Anniversary is a port of ten year old game released on eight year old hardware after we’ve witnessed the power of next-gen. Yet even with so much stacked against it, it manages to impress. There’s not much of a “wow-factor” because of its ill-timed release, but with the exception of completely rebuilding the game for Xbox One, there simply isn’t much else that could be done that isn’t accomplished here. Sound, functionality and graphics are all substantially improved and breath new life into a game that has aged remarkably well. Even after two sequels and console generations, Fable has the uncanny ability to suck you into its Adventure games Missions through the world of Albion. Anniversary is more of a preservation if anything, ensuring that the entire franchise can now be played in the same manner on the same console. As a museum piece, it’s a wonderful effort that ensures the game will remain relevant for a new generation of players. As a game, it’s the definitive edition of a superb title that has a lot to offer even in 2014.
